IP5X: The minimum recommendation for indoor stage rental and church LED displays where equipment is frequently handled and exposed to minor dust.

IP6X: The standard for all outdoor LED displays, including stadium screens, outdoor stage LED displays, and digital billboards. Dust ingress can cause shorts and overheating, so full protection is non-negotiable.


Second Digit: Water and Liquid Protection (0–9)


The second digit is often the deciding factor between indoor and outdoor displays. It defines how well the screen resists moisture, rain, and submersion.

Water Protection Guidelines


IPX0 to IPX4: Suitable for indoor or covered applications where screens are not exposed to rain or water spray.
IPX5: Can handle light rain and low-pressure water. Suitable for semi-outdoor applications (covered patios, awnings).
IPX6: The minimum standard for outdoor LED displays. It withstands heavy rain and high-pressure water jets, essential for stadium displays, outdoor stages, and building-mounted screens.

Misconception1: Higher IP Rating Is Always Better

Misconception2: IP65 Can Be Submerged in Water


IP65 protects against water jets and heavy rain, but it is not rated for submersion. The “5” means water jets from any direction, not immersion. If a screen is installed in a low-lying area where water pools, it will fail. For submersion risk, you need IP67 or higher.


Misconception 3: An Indoor Screen Can Handle Light Rain
